Amidst the global economic recession, many businesses are facing unprecedented challenges, with some even on the brink of bankruptcy. However, in the midst of these difficulties, Sao Mai Group has emerged as a beacon of hope with its plan to construct the third seafood processing plant at the Sao Mai Industrial Cluster (QL 80, Vam Cong Industrial Cluster, An Thanh Hamlet, Binh Thanh Commune, Lap Vo District, Dong Thap Province), with a total investment exceeding 800 billion VND.
The International Development & Investment Corporation (I.D.I), a member of Sao Mai Group specializing in seafood, currently operates two seafood processing plants with a combined capacity of approximately 900 tons of raw materials per day.
Despite running at full capacity, these two plants are still unable to meet customer demand. Therefore, the Group has decided to build a third seafood processing plant with a designed capacity of 120 tons of raw materials per day to cater to the current export market. This move not only allows Sao Mai Group to expand its production activities but also creates new opportunities to boost exports and enhance business development.
The scale of the third seafood processing plant is divided into two phases:
Phase 1: A cold storage facility with a capacity of 10,000 tons of finished products was completed and put into operation at the beginning of 2023.
Phase 2: Expected to be completed by the end of December 2025. Additionally, the project has received design approval for fire prevention and firefighting, ensuring absolute safety during operation. The Financial Investment and Consultancy Joint Stock Company (ASTAR), another member of Sao Mai Group specializing in construction design consultancy, has identified ways to overcome the shortcomings and optimize the operational processes for the third seafood processing plant. The plant will feature a unique "multi-story" design. This layout allows for the use of vertical transport methods, where raw fish materials are automatically lifted by scales to the upper floors for processing, and the finished products are lowered to the ground floor for packaging and storage. This design significantly reduces transportation costs and labor. More importantly, the new plant’s design allows the company to recover fish blood, which has previously been wasted, even incurring additional costs due to the need to use chemicals for wastewater treatment.
The Group’s commitment to green and environmentally friendly principles is also being fully implemented. Sao Mai Solar Trading Co., Ltd., a member of Sao Mai Group operating in the clean energy sector, plans to power the plant primarily with solar energy at a high capacity, maximizing the use of clean resources and minimizing operational costs. Solar energy not only provides economic benefits to the company but also supplies clean electricity to the nation, contributing to environmental protection.
